JAVEA  (XABIA)   (5 kilometres)

Known by many for its superb fine sandy beaches, Javea has that little something which attracts people back time and time again.  It might be its wealth of excellent restaurants, the crystal-clear sea and fine sandy beaches, or even the warm and friendly welcome given by the locals.  Whatever the reason, this picturesque fishing village has become a popular holiday paradise, offering something for everyone and is particularly sought after by golf lovers.

If you don't want to relax by the pool or on the beach all day, there are a variety of water sports to participate in but if this is too energetic for you, the many beach bars can be the perfect place to sit and watch the world go by.

MORAIRA       (7 kilometres)

Moraira is a lovely little town which has developed from an old fishing village

without losing any of its charm.  There is a small, but highly-regarded marina in the town centre where the local fishing fleet is based and which supplies the daily auctions in the fish market and is well worth a visit.

There are lovely beaches in Moraira and all along the coast and the area is ideal for water skiing and windsurfing.  The secluded bays are also popular with the expensive yachts exploring this coast.

Both in the town itself and in the surrounding area, there is an abundance of excellent restaurants and tavernas providing good value for money.  By Las Rocas Beach is the Girasol, said to be the best restaurant between Barcelona and Malaga - a distance of about 900 kilometres!

CALPE      (c. 13 kilometres)

Calpe is a well-known resort dominated by the Penon de Ifach, a massive limestone formation over 1,000 feet high.

Calpe is a lively town with excellent shops and restaurants and a busier nightlife.

SPORT

Horse riding, sailing, wind surfing, scuba diving, jet skis, fishing, tennis, climbing, hill walking, mountain biking etc.  Golfers are extremely well catered locally by the Javea Golf Club which is only about half a mile from the villa as well as by courses at Denia (La Sella) , Gandia, Oliva, Calpe & Altea.  All Golf Clubs are within easy reach.  Just a couple of minutes from the villa is the Benitachell Bowls Club.

FESTIVALS

There are a huge number of festivals in the area from March through to September but the Moors and Christians which is normally in July and the Hogueras de San Juan in June are probably the biggest and best.  It is a chance to see some of the region's age-old customs re-enacted by the local people in National Dress.

Festivals or fiestas are normally accompanied by spectacular fireworks displays.

ALTEA    (c. 20 kilometres)

Altea is one of Spain’s most memorable towns.  In the old town there are numerous bars, restaurants, art galleries and a labyrinth of narrow streets with whitewashed houses together with a lovely old church with a magnificent blue and white tiled dome.  The views of the bay from the old town are quite spectacular especially at night.
